Mediterranean Cruises
Compare 49 Mediterranean cruises in our guide, sailing with 16 cruise lines on itineraries from 7 Nights to 15 Nights. Every cruise includes the full port-by-port itinerary, an interactive route map, and traveler insights sourced from real reviews.
Mediterranean cruises are port-intensive: most days you are ashore, often on a long excursion inland from a port that is not quite the city on the ticket. Rome means Civitavecchia, on the coast well north of the city; Athens means Piraeus; Florence usually means Livorno. Itineraries split into a western loop (Barcelona, the French and Italian Rivieras, Rome) and an eastern one (the Greek islands, the Adriatic coast, sometimes Turkey), with seven to twelve nights being the usual length and Barcelona, Piraeus and Civitavecchia the main turnaround ports.
"Venice" on a big-ship itinerary deserves a second look. Since August 1, 2021, ships over 25,000 gross tons have been barred from the Giudecca Canal past St. Mark's, so large ships either use the industrial port at Marghera or start from Ravenna or Trieste instead - separate cities with their own ports, reached from Venice by train or coach. Only small ships still sail the classic approach.
The season runs April to October, and summer is the hard part: hot, crowded and dearest. Greece now prices that in. Since July 21, 2025, cruise passengers who go ashore pay a disembarkation fee - 20 euros at Mykonos and Santorini from June through September, 12 euros in April, May and October, and 4 euros in winter, with lower rates at other Greek ports. Cruise lines bill it to your onboard account when you step off.
Entry paperwork is changing for non-EU travelers. The EU's Entry/Exit System, which records fingerprints and a photo at the first Schengen border, began on October 12, 2025 and was fully rolled out by April 10, 2026. ETIAS - an online travel authorisation that Americans and other visa-free visitors will need - is scheduled for the last quarter of 2026, with a transition period before it is enforced. Check whether it applies before a 2027 sailing.
