Peggy's Cove means a tour, a taxi or a car
No Halifax Transit route goes to Peggy's Cove. It is about 50 minutes each way by Route 333, so for a cruise call the choices are a ship or private tour from the terminal, a taxi tour - Casino Taxi lists a $150 flat rate with an hour on site - or a rental car from around $100 a day.
Once there, stay off the black rocks. The waves along that shore are strong, and the area's tourism guide gives the warning as plainly as it gives the directions.
The $3 harbour crossing
The cheapest boat trip in port is the Halifax Transit ferry from the Halifax waterfront terminal to Alderney Landing in downtown Dartmouth: $3, about 15 minutes, running every 15 to 30 minutes. Pay with exact change or the HFXGO app. Across the water, Portland Street has the cafes and cider bars, and you get the Halifax skyline on the ride back.
A long season with some overnights
Halifax's 2026 cruise season runs from April 7, when Viking Polaris opened it, to November 5, when Seabourn Ovation closes it, and the calendar includes eight overnight calls - Queen Mary 2 among them in early July. On an overnight, the Dartmouth ferry runs until just before midnight, so an evening across the harbour is easy.
