Cape Liberty, NJ cruise port

Cape Liberty is Royal Caribbean's New York-area homeport, built on the old Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne - a flat 430-acre peninsula sticking into the harbour with essentially nothing on it but the terminal. That is fine, because you are not staying: Newark Liberty is roughly 20 minutes away and Manhattan half an hour. The sailaway past the Statue of Liberty is the best in the country.

Driving in: $30 a day, no reservations

Most passengers from the tri-state area drive, and the port's own parking is right beside the terminal. As of late 2025 the published rate is $30 a day for a car, $60 for an RV or minibus and $90 for a full-size coach. Any major credit card works.

You cannot book a space ahead; you simply drive in and pay. On busy sailing days, when the main garage fills, the port runs a free shuttle from overflow lots to the terminal, so allow extra time if you are arriving late in the boarding window.

Winter sailings lose days to snow

Cape Liberty sends ships to the Bahamas year-round, and in winter that means leaving from a harbour that gets real snowstorms. On February 22, 2026, a blizzard warning calling for 12-18 inches of snow and 50 mph gusts kept Odyssey of the Seas tied up overnight instead of sailing on its seven-night Bahamas trip - the second time that winter the ship had been caught by severe weather in port. A lost day at the start can mean a port call adjusted or dropped later in the week.

It is the reason Royal Caribbean bases most of its fleet in Florida and Texas for the cold months. Anyone booking a December-March sailing from here should build slack into flights and work plans at both ends.
