The cable car is shut until 2028
The Teleférico up Mount Isabel de Torres has been closed since June 2024. A pulley failed in May 2024 and stranded 32 people, and later inspections concluded the 1975 system could not be certified as safe. As of October 2026 it is being replaced with a new aerial tramway using two 55-passenger cabins, with reopening expected in the first quarter of 2028.
Tours still advertise the Christ statue and the gardens at the summit, but without the cable car the only way up is by road. Ask how a tour gets to the top before booking anything that features the mountain.
Which pier your line uses
Amber Cove is the Carnival Corporation pier - Carnival, Princess, Holland America - and sits about 10 miles from the city. Taino Bay, which opened in December 2021, takes Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC, Celebrity, Virgin and Disney and is right beside the historic centre around Fort San Felipe. Free three-wheeled bike taxis run passengers from the ship to the gate inside the port.
US dollars are widely accepted in town, so there is little reason to change money for a single day.
